Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a name used to describe progressive lung problems such as chronic asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Smoking is the main cause of COPD, but breathing in secondhand smoke, other chemicals and pollution may also put you at risk. If you are over the age of 40 and are a smoker you may be at risk for developing COPD.
November is COPD Awareness Month and a perfect time to get involved and learn more about this devastating disease. The COPD Foundation website has many great resources and educational materials about COPD and how to manage it.
