If you have a chronic lung disease, you may benefit from a pulmonary rehabilitation program. It is a program of exercise, education and support to help patients improve physical conditioning and emotional health, decrease symptoms and reduce hospitalizations. Pulmonary rehabilitation programs take a team approach to patient care with a group of professionals including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, counselors and dietitians working with the patients on a regular basis. The patients participate in regular physical activity, learn how to best cope with their disease and meet others who have chronic lung conditions and share similar experiences, feelings and questions.
