If you or your loved one has COPD, you may have heard of the Global Initiative For Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, or GOLD. But what is it, exactly?
GOLD was launched in 1997 with the purpose of improving the lives of people with COPD worldwide. Collaborating with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization, GOLD works with health care professionals and public health officials around the world to raise awareness and improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COPD.
